As a Product Manager, you are responsible for Strategy, Managing &  coordinating marketing activities of the Crop assigned to you. Drive the team to achieve qualitative and quantitative targets. Encourage and establish innovation to improve processes & productivity. Should have good commercial acumen and be able to forecast short-term & long-term plans.

Crop Strategy:

Participates and leads the crop strategic vision – SCR (Strategic Crop Reviews) tool – provides clarity to management on the crops – business environment, improve market presence, reach & penetration


Understand market dynamics and competitive environment in Vegetable markets in the region and translate it into strategy


Determine breeding objectives and product specifications at mid and long term level.


Product Management:


Under the supervision of the Portfolio Lead, elaborate & execute the Crop Strategy for his crops


Marketing mix – focus on margin optimization, minimizing portfolio risk, product pricing & positioning


Manage product range (PLC) – new product introduction, product phase out, pipeline product strategy.


Manage new products introductions in accordance with the strengths and weaknesses of existing product range, market potential, new market opportunities, future trends & competition pressure


Optimize turnover and margin of managed products through supply chain expectations, sales potential evaluation and product pricing guidance.


Collaborate with sales management in the development and implementation of product positioning & pricing strategies


Assume technical expertise by providing sales with technical data in order to support optimal product performance and product sales


Product Development Co-ordination:


Collaborate & manage new products, new product concepts and product development with the Breeder, Product Development and sales.


Create and maintain working relationships with local internal and external product development resources in target markets



Develop and implement product trial plans with breeders and regional product development teams based upon market knowledge and objectives and existing range & germplasm pool.

Assess trial results obtained from breeders, product development and sales to determine product performance and life cycle decisions.

Co-ordinates and gives direction on samples movement in the region

Operational co-ordinations:

Cross functional collaboration with seed supply to ensure smooth supply and availability of the products

Participate in production planning pre-release meetings. Manage safety stock level for his crops.

Manage the seed quantity needs for varieties under development, through collaborative efforts with Sales Managers in preparation for commercial launch.

Work with inventory management teams to effectively and efficiently manage seed availability for varieties at the development stage.

Manage new seed product form development and introduction in collaboration with Seed Technology, Research and Sales.

Maintain and improve product quality consistency via collaborative efforts between Production, QC, Operations, Inventory Management and Seed Technology.

Market intelligence & Business outlook:

Collect market data in collaboration with development and sales teams.  Maintain market information data bases.

Analyze market data in order to identify key market targets, and to anticipate major market changes.  Responsible for market segmentation (PMC = Product Market Combinations). Calculate market shares.

Maintain knowledge of all varieties within the assigned product portfolio.

Initiate and lead in the construction of new partnerships, while maintaining existing partnerships as it applies to seed supply outsourcing, breeding cooperation, and variety integration in the product range.

Product Communications:

Promote species communication within the company (internal documents, sales conventions, open field days etc.)

Co-ordinate with communications for effective product promotion, new product launches, product campaigns, literature, go to market activities, Brand management and leveraging products USP for creating awareness in the market

Strategic Planning, Forecasting and Analysis – Ability to initiate and lead the planning and analysis of market data, through constant communication and coordination with research, development, and sales teams, in order to evaluate main targets.   Ability to plan actions, execute, follow-up and analyze results.

Technical Skills – Practical knowledge and experience in breeding, seed development, seed sales or seed or vegetable production. Project management ability needed. Prior experience in dealing with vegetables seeds preferred.  


Interpersonal Skills – Possess strong leadership and communication skills.  Ability to develop and maintain productive work relationships with various positions within the organization such as breeders, lab personnel, sales and product development teams, seed production department, inventory management, quality control, operations plant managers, communications, product management, and technical data teams.

Teamwork - Team player with a positive attitude.  Ability to lead as well as collaborate.

Judgment - Exhibit sound and accurate judgment.  Accept personal responsibility for task fulfillment and job performance.  

Professionalism - Highly self-motivated individual, with a high level of time management and organizational skills and a creative aptitude.  Well-organized, committed, accurate and thorough, with attention to detail.

Adaptability - Ability to deal with frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.  Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to travel on a regular basis.  Ability and willingness to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (agricultural fields).
