KAPA and AP biodiversity board jointly organized Capacity building on Access and benefit sharing in Bio Diversity

Keeping in view the importance of Biodiversity and seed industry, Karnataka Agri- Professional’s Association (KAPA), Hyderabad in association with AP Biodiversity board organized an interaction and deliberation session under its umbrella on 12th August 2012. KAPA is a registered society and a Techno-Socio-Cultural forum of all the professionals with academic background of any degrees related to agriculture and allied sciences from various universities of Karnataka, India. The capacity building component of this meeting dealt on:

The conservation of biological diversity;
The sustainable use of its components;
The equitable sharing of benefits arising out of the use of biological resources.

Dr. Vilas A. Tonapi, president of KAPA welcomed the dignitaries and the delegates. The programme was divided into two sessions. The first session dealt with the CBD, BDA and NBA in relation to Bio Diversity/CBD/Access and Benefits. The session was chaired by Dr. Varaprasad, Director, Directorate of Oil seeds Research, Hyderabad. In this session, salient features of Biodiversity Act were presented by Dr S N Jadhav and a Key Note address on Access and Benefit Sharing was delivered by Dr R Hampaiah, Chairman of AP, Biodiversity Board. Dr. CLL Gowda from ICRISAT spoke on access and Benefit Sharing in Biodiversity.
